Tennis star Serena Williams has signed out for the Miami Open. The 39-year-old American withdrew because she is still recovering from an operation on her mouth.
“Sadly, I have to withdraw from the Miami Open because of a recent surgery,” she said. “Miami is a special tournament for me because it is my home, and I hate not going to see the great fans this year. I look forward to returning.”
Williams’ cancellation is the next in a string of big names who previously announced they would skip Florida’s tournament. The tennis players are missing Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, who won the game in the last edition in 2019. The Austrian Dominic Thiem is also not participating.
